Privacy Policy
Absolute Ear is an ear training app that helps you develop reliable pitch recognition through progressive, focused practice. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices. We keep things short and plain.
1. Who we are
Absolute Ear is operated by an independent developer. If you have privacy questions, email us at [email protected].
2. What we collect
If you use the app as a guest
You can use Absolute Ear without creating an account. In guest mode we do not collect your name, email address, or any other personally identifiable information. Your practice progress is stored only on your device.
If you create an account
We collect the following depending on the sign-in method you choose:
- Sign in with Apple — Apple shares your name and either your real email address or an anonymized relay address, depending on the privacy setting you choose in the Apple sign-in prompt.
- Sign in with Google — Google shares your name and email address.
- Email (one-time code) — We receive the email address you enter to send your sign-in code.
Once signed in, we store your account information and practice data (session history, accuracy scores, streaks, badges, and progress through modules) on our backend, which is powered by Convex (convex.dev).
Subscription data
Subscriptions are processed entirely through the Apple App Store and Google Play. We receive a confirmation of your subscription status but never see or store your payment card details.
Crash and error data
We use Sentry (sentry.io) to capture crash reports and error logs. Crash reporting is always on and cannot be disabled. When a crash occurs, Sentry automatically collects technical information such as the device type, operating system version, app version, and a stack trace. This data does not include your name or email address, but may include a randomly generated device identifier assigned by Sentry.
3. How we use your information
- To operate your account and sync your practice progress across devices.
- To deliver and manage your subscription.
- To diagnose and fix crashes and bugs.
- To respond to support or privacy requests you send us.
We do not sell your data. We do not use your data for advertising. We do not build behavioral profiles or share data with ad networks.
4. Third-party services
The following services may receive some of the data described above. Each has its own privacy policy.
| Service | Purpose | Data shared |
|---|---|---|
| Convex | Backend and database | Account info, practice data |
| Sentry | Crash reporting | Device info, error logs |
| Apple | Sign-in, payments | Name, email (if Apple sign-in), subscription status |
| Sign-in | Name, email (if Google sign-in) |
5. Children's privacy
Absolute Ear does not target children under 13, but we recognize that younger users may use the app under parental supervision. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Because a full guest mode is available — requiring no account and no personal data — young learners can practice freely without providing any information to us. If a child creates an account, the account holds only an email address and practice scores.
The app contains no advertising, no social features, and no violent or mature content. It is suitable for all ages.
If you believe we have inadvertently received personal information from a child under 13, please contact us at [email protected] and we will delete it promptly.
6. Data retention
We keep your account data for as long as your account exists. Crash and error data is retained according to Sentry's default retention policy (90 days for free plans). When you delete your account, your personal data and practice history are deleted immediately from your device and our backend database.
7. Your rights and choices
- Access or correction — Email us and we will tell you what data we hold for your account and correct any inaccuracies.
- Deletion — You can delete your account directly in the app. This immediately and permanently removes your personal data and practice history from your device and our backend database. You can also request deletion by emailing [email protected].
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR (European Union) or CCPA (California). We honor those rights. Email us to exercise them.
8. Security
Your data is transmitted over HTTPS and stored on Convex's infrastructure, which uses industry-standard security practices. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.
9. Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. For significant changes we will notify account holders by email. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes acceptance.
